About Me.
Hi, I’m Hilary (a.k.a ❤️ Dr. Hils), I’m an expert in organizational development and effectiveness, with a specialization in behavior and culture change. I've worked across industries ranging from retail and aerospace through to finance and healthcare. I am industry agnostic, and focus on helping organizations address challenges related to people and performance.
Since 2006, I’ve been a management consultant, collaborating with some of the world’s largest organizations on projects ranging from succession planning and target operating model development to multi-million dollar ERP implementations. I enjoy working with leadership and teams to create clarity and practical solutions during complex projects. My approach is rooted in humanistic systems thinking, considering everything from capability and capacity to organizational culture before jumping into co-creating a solution. I focus on creating alignment and addressing both facts and feelings to support projects in the right direction.
Key outcomes of some of my projects include:
• Clear and aligned organizational culture and behaviours
• Improved decision-making through data utilization and clear governance processes
• Streamlined processes enhancing organizational efficiency
• Increased employee satisfaction due to clarity of roles, expectations, and equity
• Enhanced communication, including effective two-way feedback and access to leadership
• Adoption of new technologies to drive efficiency
Ask me about:
• Organizational Development • Culture and Leadership Strategy • Behavioral Transformation • Coaching Leaders • Creating and Sustaining Change • Employee Experience • Future of Work • Building Agile and Adaptive Organizations • Process Change • Thought Leadership • Skilled Facilitation • People Strategy • Organizational Effectiveness • Keynote Speaking • Fractional Leadership • Capability Development • Organization Design •
A bit about me that isn’t on my resume:
Biggest strength: Facilitation - both team building and tough leadership discussions
Biggest weakness: Conflict avoidance (definitely aware, and working on it!)
Ask me about: My dog Bentley, a very cute Bernedoodle
Funny moment: Getting my PhD conferred on April Fools Day
Countries lived: 7
Languages spoken: 1 fluently and a lot very badly 😎
Countries I’ve visited: 57 (Next expedition: Raja Ampat, Lembeh, and Japan)

My values....
Engagement, bright energy, being yourself, courage, resiliency, and curiosity
Values are such a personal thing - there is a lot of conversation about being authentic these days and although I could cite honesty, reliability, etc.... they just don't feel right. I am a high energy person who really enjoys having those hard conversations about change that start to move the dial.
I'm great at engaging quickly and seeing the big picture in order get the ball rolling. I shine when I am facilitating or sharing knowledge and when I have to deal with details, I turn on some Mozart, hide away in my home office and get it done! My honest and direct style are not for everyone, but when we click, really good things happen |
Life is an adventure.
Although you may mostly see me in work attire, my life has been more of an adventure! I've lived in 7 countries and have had the absolute privilege to visit 57, and will keep adding to this total. These experiences have contributed to how I have developed both my world view and interest in culture, what drives people, and their behaviour. It is fascinating to see how one influences the other, as we have all grown up with different frames and experiences. My life before becoming a management consultant in 2006 was in the tourism and outdoor recreation industry. This foundational experience really helped me create a solid understanding for people, customer experience, and all of the parts that go into running a business. This will always keep evolving with every new piece of information and experience I have!
Other Projects.
Although management consulting is my primary 'day-job'
there are a few other things that add colour to my life.

Transactional Cross-Cultural Interactions: A qualitative study of British expatriates and service providers in Dubai Publish Date - 1st April 2017 As globalization has exponentially increased mobility, the United Arab Emirates has become a country that hosts nationalities from around the globe, with expatriates making up over 89% of the population. This study builds on the conceptual model presented by Stauss and Mang that explored the intercultural provider performance gap through investigating how British expatriates experience cross-cultural transactions with service providers in Dubai. This study took place in 2016 and it involved 15 individual interviews and a facilitated focus group with six of those participants. I analyzed the gathered information through thematic analysis and I further evaluated it against secondary information to help to create a clear understanding of how expatriates experience transactional cross-cultural interactions in Dubai. Key findings of the study included that the service provider gap identified by Stauss and Mang is consistent with transactional interactions in Dubai. Findings further indicate that British expatriates tend to be aware of their behavior within the scope of an interaction and they experience empathy for the situation of service providers; however, their customer expectations of service have not changed and there is a demonstrated unwillingness to change. Accordingly, I propose a transactional experience model to provide a framework for understanding between expatriates and service providers.
